In another victory for social development, Bosasa was recently awarded the mandate to open and manage the Springbok Secure Care Centre in Namaqualand.
The achievement is in line with Bosasa’s ongoing commitment to providing healthy, safe and secure environments for South Africa’s disadvantaged youths. The core values of education, health care and social and economic development have placed Bosasa’s Youth Development Centre in the top spot of six of the nine provinces.
The decision to award the mandate to the Bosasa Youth Development Centres was wholly supported by the highly regarded lay journal, Article 40, founded by the Children’s Rights Project. Contributors Jean Redpath, Louise Ehlers and Lukas Muntingh were particularly interested in Bosasa’s aims and goals for the centre, as well as its successful track record with similar youth programmes.
Article 40 was launched in 1999 with the sole aim of highlighting the plight of child justice in South Africa and the continent. It is therefore an honour for Bosasa to be entrusted with the care centre. It is also indicative of the Group’s hands on approach to improve the lives of thousands of anonymous children who so often are lost in bureaucratic red tape.
Redpath, Ehlers and Muntingh are part of The Dynamics of Youth Justice and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in South Africa organisation. The decision to award the mandate to Bosasa was sealed after the group conducted a detailed analysis of various private and public youth development centres.
A statement released by the organisation, reported that, “Based on the performance of departmental facilities as measured against the benchmark provided by the outsourced facility, it may be concluded that the outsourced facility provides a service that is more aligned with child rights and more economical than departmental facilities.”
The Department of Social Services and Population Development has proved its commitment to the present and future success of young people by providing the new, state-of-the-art facility, suitable for both boys and girls.
Jackie Leyds, MD of the Youth Development Centres is confident that the new addition to the Bosasa family will be able to raise the bar of child care in South Africa. In order to maintain high standards, the group has invested substantial capital in each project. It is, however, the human factor and physical involvement that far outshines financial contributions.
Bosele looks forward to reporting on the centres progress and successes.
