Bosasa has been inundated with requests to present its programmes in the City of Tshwane, with specific requests from the Soshanguve, GaRangkua and Hammanskraal areas. To this end we embarked on a community outreach programme in the local schools. The major problems identified included substance abuse and the lack of self enrichment and leadership programmes. Thutong is one of the schools where prevention and early intervention programmes are presented to the scholars. The school has a high rate of substance abuse and educators are unable to coping with the learners. They decided to launch an awareness campaign for the learners and invited Bosasa to assist with their campaign. This has resulted in a long term partnership with the school and programmes being delivered by Bosasa during school holidays. Children will be exposed to the Whitney’s kiss sexuality and HIV Aids Programme, the Matrix substance abuse programme and the Bright Star Programme. In this way vulnerable young people are given skills to live meaningfully and cope with their situations.
