Grace Phoshoko – Training Coordinator

Grace Phoshoko is currently employed as a Community and Training Coordinator within our BOSASA Youth Development Centres. She is qualified with a Higher Diploma in Education from the Ndebele College in Mpumalanga and is currently working towards obtaining her Honours. Grace gained nine years of teaching experience before joining us in 2010
Her responsibilities encompass the training of both children and staff in all of our youth care facilities nationwide. She is involved in all programmes implemented for the youths’ rehabilitation and reintegration process, as well as staff training. Devoted to and passionate about young people and their development, her work has always been focused on the height of prevention and early intervention within schools. This has ultimately led to her assisting in preventing children from entering the criminal justice system.

Her Current Role

Previously, Grace taught the subject Technology to students in grades eight to ten and Maths and Science subjects to grade ten to twelve. The highlight of her career so far was at a time when she was teaching learners Maths, as well as running with a particular project that changed the way they were educated. It required the children to use their cell phones while she was connected to her laptop, which enabled her to see which of the learners were responding to the tasks given. She fondly recalls the satisfaction and pride she experienced when her students successfully achieved their goals. The gratitude extended by these pupils and the gratification experienced by Grace is what secured this field as her primary focus.

Grace’s background and awareness of the challenges that have to be faced daily in this industry enables her to reach out to the youth in trouble with the law. Not only does she deliver on her teaching abilities, but she also offers the young offenders her unwavering support and commitment. She is admired amongst her peers and colleagues for her continuous devotion and compassion towards both the children and the secure care facilities. Her efforts to help in the rehabilitation and reintegration of the youth are highly appreciated and valued within BOSASA.

Grace also provides various training sessions to other BOSASA staff members. These focus on both the personal growth of the employees, as well as their skills development. She adds value through her support, encouragement, positive attitude and ability to inspire others to succeed.

Mainly recognised for her knowledge and direct working experience with children and adolescents, especially those in a school environment, Grace Phoshoko is well-suited to her role within our company. She further aspires to qualify as an assessor and moderator in the future, which will enable her to set benchmark standards for child and youth care. This is in line with BOSASA’s aim towards continued service excellence and high quality.
