Visit by the CEO

11/12/2013

There was  a buzz of excitement at the John X Merriman child care centre when Nkokheli took a little time out of his busy schedule to visit the centre. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the presence of Danie Van Tonder, Syvion Dlamini, Basie Baasdien and the youth centre management. The regional coordinator - Luxolo Malindi - took upon the responsibility of leading the delegation in the tour of the facility.

Approximately 8 youth had prepared a welcoming committee for Nkokheli, carrying cards portraying some of the messages from the blog for the week. They presented the blog in a creative way, which stunned even Nkokheli himself who couldn’t hold back his excitement as he repeated some of the blog messages presented by the youth. The blog was teams to amaze (brand reputation is service excellence).

The youth centre tour continued, starting at the upholstery workshop and furniture-making workshops with Nkokheli greeting all of the instructors and youth in the workshops.

It was in the life skills class where Nkokheli decided to spend some time observing the work done by the children. Nkokheli was thrilled by the work produced by the children as it reflected their inner souls and thoughts. It was in this life skills class where Nkokheli challenged us to improve the scripture or bible lessons, incorporating these teachings to be a bigger part of the life skills curriculum. This helps the children to be grounded and have hope for their lives.

Nkokheli was very impressed with the facility as he shared with us the following words: “This centre is excellent, you’re doing excellent work here and you have an excellent team”. Nkokheli went on to add: “the centre is much better off than some of the centres I’ve visited recently”.

Nkokheli’s visit has sparked excitement and brought hope for a better life to both employees and the youth at John X Merriman. He touched them with words of encouragement and left many blessings, which will ignite the entire team and youth to keep the fires burning. We express our appreciation from the bottom of our hearts and we commit to making John X Merriman child and youth care centre the best going forward. His visit will be mapped in this unit as it is history in the making and will continue to inspire everyone working here and those to come.

Thank you Nkokheli for visiting us in light of your busy schedule, we remain teams to pray, teams2deliver and teams2amaze! Thank you for being an inspiration and thank you for being an amazing leader. God bless you!

From the youth, employees and leadership of John x Merriman

Words: Luxolo Malindi
